Banana, yolk, daffodil: the sun peaks at yellow

so human eyes and our star are in sync at yellow.

Triplets of the primary world: red, blue, green;

why not citrine, straw? The baby speaks at yellow.

Cones, rods, retinas differ, yet we calibrate hues

of black-eyed Susans blooming this week at yellow.

If someone blind kissed my eyelids, I’d discern school

bus from daisy field. Please start the critique at yellow.

Color’s a union of surface and light—a marriage

begun with the sun’s turn, oblique at yellow.

I wanted to be that gold square, butterscotch lozenge,

un cadeau sans bow. My longing piqued at yellow.
